How Long Does It Take To Fit A Carpet?

How Long Does It Take To Fit A Carpet?

If you’re getting a new carpet fitted then you’re probably excited to get it down on the floor to make your room look the part.

But how long does it take? Well, it depends.

Typically it can take as little as an hour to fit a single bedroom up to a couple of hours for an average lounge or double bedroom and up to three or four hours for a more complicated larger lounge/diner for example.

Stair carpets are generally the most time consuming areas to fit and on average the fitting times would be a couple of hours for a smaller top landing and stairs, up to 4 hours for an average 3 bed semi if full hall stairs and landing, and up to a full day for more complicated staircases, town houses, “double” staircase to a loft conversion for example.

If you are having a full house fitted in carpets then a reasonable guide would be a modern 3 bed home would be completed by a two man fitting team in a day. Larger homes, 4, 5 beds, multiple en suites etc would possibly run into a second day.

Of course this is just a rough guide and the length of time to fit a carpet in your home depends on a number of factors. These include:

  • Size Of Rooms
  • Number Of Rooms
  • Shape Of Rooms
  • Room Condition
  • What’s Required (Underlay etc)

Size Of Rooms

It goes without saying that a larger room can take more time to fit a carpet.

Shape Of The Room

Is the room a simple square, or is it an unusual shape with lots of cut out points? The more simple the room, the easier and quicker it is to fit a carpet.

Rooms with unusual shaped walls or other odd features make take longer to fit.

Room Condition

Is the room filled with furniture or empty? It’s always recommended to fit a carpet in an empty room.

You’re able to do this yourself, so as long as the room is empty and in good condition it should be easier and faster for the carpet fitters to get your floor down.

If you require carpets to be uplifted this can be discussed when we call to measure and we can make arrangements to provide this service.

What’s Required

What is required for your new carpet? Do you need underlay or are you happy with keeping your current underlay?

What’s required for the job can make it a longer or shorter task depending on what you need.

Things can include underlay, gripper rods and other things you may or may not need to fit your new carpet.
