Should Carpets In Your Home Match Or Be Different?

When it comes to getting new carpets or flooring in your home, you might be considering a few design choices.

If you’re looking at getting your full house done, or multiple rooms, you may be thinking should you go for a different carpet in each room, or should you match every room.

The answer is that you can design your home the way you like. That means you can fit the same carpet in different rooms, or go for a completely different look in each room.

Should Carpets In Your Home Match Or Be Different?

Can you have different carpets in different rooms?

You absolutely can have different carpets in each room, and many people would recommend that you do.

This is a design choice, but many will say that each room should have it’s own personality, which means different decor. When it comes to choosing a carpet, this is something you should consider.

You may opt for a grey carpet in your living room, which in the dining room you may go for a beige carpet, or even laminate flooring.

As well as mixing and matching carpets you can do the same with the types of flooring too. Going from carpet to laminate flooring is not uncommon, but will require a Z-bar or zig-zag for joining at the door.

Should The Landing Carpet Match The Bedrooms?

When it comes to the upstairs, the landing carpet does not need to match the bedrooms. In fact, this rarely happens, as each bedroom usually has it’s own personality, with the people who occupy the rooms.

You may have girl and boy children along with the adult bedroom, and the carpets could be completely different. You could also opt for laminate in the bedrooms with a carpet on the stairs and landing.

Should you have the same carpet throughout your house?

It would be unusual to have the exact same carpet in your home, but it does happen. If you have moved into a new home or are renting out a home, you may choose to decorate every room the same, using the same carpets in the bedrooms for example.

The same carpet could be used in the living room and the dining room too. Once again this is down to design choice, and if you are going for a particular colour scheme throughout your home, you may opt for this.

On that note, yes you can mix and match carpets in your home, and in fact it’s common. Many houses mix up the types of flooring, from vinyl in the kitchen to carpets in the bedroom and laminate flooring in the living room, with tiled flooring in the bathroom.

Whatever you decide it all comes down to your own personal choices and preferences.
